Rooted in Takaoka’s 400-Year Legacy of Metal Craftsmanship

The history of Takaoka copperware dates back over 400 years to the Edo period, when Lord Toshinaga Maeda of the Kaga Domain invited metal casters to the castle town to stimulate local industry. What began with daily-use items like pots and kettles eventually evolved into the production of garden lanterns, Buddhist statues, and decorative art. Otani Kisaku Shoten was established in 1939 as part of this tradition and has continued the legacy through generations of craftsmanship.

From Sand to Sculpture – Complete In-House Production

All of our pieces—from casting to finishing and coloring—are crafted entirely in-house by seasoned artisans. We specialize in traditional sand mold casting, a method that produces works with a distinct weight and refined surface texture enriched by the granularity of the sand.

Art That Lives with You

Our goal is to create cast metal objects that naturally fit into daily life—pieces that resonate with quiet beauty, warmth, and purpose. Rather than creating decorative items for display only, we focus on crafting tools and art that offer comfort, emotional value, and long-lasting companionship through use.
